RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

In the past we had a neighbor who had dogs that barked all night. I had a theatrical spotlight that I rigged to shine on their bedroom window with a sound-activated switch. A year of begging them to bring the dogs in at night, or move them to a spot behind their house (where there was nothing but woods for 1/2 mile) could not do the trick, but 3 nights of intense light that turned on and off fixed the issue.
My vote for the coolest solution yet.

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

I would suggest starting with assault rifles. If that doesn't work then give some hand grenades and mortars a try. If they still don't comply, 2,000 pound laser guided bombs is the next option. If that doesn't do the trick then going nuclear is the only viable option.
NOW we're getting somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Seems to me the neighbor is being a bully. Progress is never made and problems never solved if bullies are allowed to go unchecked. His right to light up his back yard ends at the property line. One responder said violence is never the answer. Sometime it's just the LAST resort.
Man up and stand up for yourself. Those that advocate the high road will always back down and lose more than they believe they gain by taking the high road.
Paint the fence, if he doesn't like it he will have to repaint his side. Make sure you put it up with the "nice" side toward you so it makes it harder for him to paint. And don't forget to paint the posts and stringers. One additional thought on the fence. If the project takes a couple days, the neighbor may change his mind once the first couple boards go up.

RE: Duggars and their 18 kids

What about the carbon footprint of camping? This family carpools everywhere they go. How many RVers load up in a dually with their spouse and get 10 mpg on the way to enjoy nature by taking the comforts of home with them??
Just another thought about how ludicrous the environmental angle is on undermining this family.
The 18 kids are going to have a crabon footprint every day of their lives. Your RV has a carbon footprint only when you use it. Unless you leave it plugged into shore power, there is no footprint. So the average person takes a couple vacations a year with their RV, usually what, maybe a day's drive each way, then sets up for the camping time. Still much less than the Duggars daily foot print.
I saw an interview where one of the daughters said she wanted as many kids as her family. So that family now has the potential to have 36 children with just mom and one daughter. If all the kids had 18 kids, that would be 324 more people (342 if you count the spouses) from just on generation of one family. If those all chose to have 18 kids that would make the 2nd generation a small city of 5,832 (6174 counting spouses). Just a guess but I think it would take a very large carlot full of RVs to come close to that carbon footprint.

RE: Duggars and their 18 kids

carbon footprint? Are you serious?
Does that mean we should be like China and their policies? Do you really think it solves anything from a "enviromental" standpoint??
I personally think it is each family's choice.
I also think children ARE a blessing, and should be treated as such.
Yes, as a matter of fact I am VERY serious. Other than our ability to think and use tools, we are not much different than any other animal on this planet. When the population of a given spiecies get too large for it's food supply, it either dies off from starvation or is weakened to the point that stronger predators reduce the population. Humans have overcome most of that problem by mechanization and science. But the bottom line is we as a spiecies have lost sight of the basic principle of life (a given area can support just so many occupants).
The oil supply is finite, whether a myth or good science there's global warming, anti-social gangs even in rural areas, and just general crowding. The idea of adopting instead of birthing another baby is, in my opinion a sound, practical, and on the whole a much more humane start on slowing this growth explosion.
I believe that education is the best first step. Years ago seat belts and motorcycle helmets were not used. Now, although mostly by legislation, every state has seatbelt laws. Prior to that anyone with more than two brain cells firing saw the benefit of seat belts and wore them. Those that refused probably needed to be removed from the gene pool anyway but, someone thought it best to legislate personal decision for the general population's well being.

RE: Duggars and their 18 kids

I should have been more specific, SFPROP stated where I was going when I posted. I know people with 7 kids and they are all well behaved and a pleasure to be around. However, the impact on that many humans on the planet is irresponsible, period. I heard an interview where the oldest daughter said she wanted as many kids as her mother. Lack of debt and polite, well behaved kids are a good things, but it doesn't lessen their impact on the planet. Imagine the Duggar's carbon footprint. Soon to be ten times that of a childless couple. Regardless of the financial security of the family, they're still using a lot of resources most of the rest of us are trying very hard to conserve.
Think of what the condition of the world would be today if there were half as many people. Imagine driving through Phoenix, Los Angeles or San Francisco with half as many cars on the road.
I don't mean we should chastise them, but at the very least irresponsible reproduction like that should not be celebrated.

Anyone else out there think that doing a television show on these people is sending the wrong message in this age of overpopulation and such?

RE: Anyone have experience with being on probation?

Missed appointments can result in a warrant. Probation is a state agency and work basic state hours unless they're doing a sweep or some other enforcement detail. So weekdays between 8:30 and 4:30 is not unusual. As the Probation Department knows where he works, they or the local law enforcement agency can come into his work place, put on the bracelets and walk him out the front door any time of day. No consideration to your work load or schedule..

RE: Hou do you handle a road rage situation?

Your story sounds serious, but I can tell you a funny one that happened to me a few months back. I was on my way to work on the freeway and traffic was fairly heavy but still moving at 60 mph. I was in the center lane of the three lanes. A car pulled right up on my rear within inches from my bumper. I could see the guy in the car pounding on his steering wheel and mouthing words to me. So I slowed down a little to make sure I blocked him in behind me with a truck to my right side and a car on my left. Eventually he was able to get around the truck on the right and as he pulled up next me on the right he gave me the one finger salute and I smiled at him. That got him even more ticked off so he raced forward and swerved right in front of me cutting me off. Bad luck for him though since I'm a cop and I was in an unmarked police car. I turned on the emergency lights and even added the siren for effect and pulled him over. I approached the right side of his car and said, "I bet you had no idea what you were doing to a cop did you?" Strangely, he was nice and poolite, but I still called for a CHP unit to come by and had the guy cited for tailgating and unsafe lane change. I gave him a big break because his actions were actually reckless driving, but since his attitude improved he only got a $500 ticket instead of a $2500 misdemeanor ticket. I bet he's more careful in the future about who he does that too.
Funny how knuckleheads are. Very similar thing happened to me when I was in the Detective Bureau, only there were just the two of us on a two lane mountain road. He came up behind me and tailgated me AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT (violation #1), then passed over a solid double yellow line (#2), then slowed to 25 in a 55 (#3), then after several miles sped up to over 70 in the 55 (#4), then kept it at 50 when he entered the 35 MPH zone at the city limits #5). Only when he pulled into a gas station one of our marked units was parked in front of him so he kept his eyes on him. I walked up to his window and asked for his license and registration, he said as he turned toward me, "I don't have to show you...." About that time he saw the badge and .45 in the shoulder holster (left the jacket in the car). Real polite. I did cite him for every violation I saw.

My first choice would be the 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mkll. Brittish racing green, wire wheels, glass pacs (after knocking off the mufflers and resonators on a dirt road).

RE: Use marker and put SS number on arm

Only problem with that order is the Social Security number is almost worthless for identifying a body by a local law enforcement agancy. You state drivers license or ID card number would be a better/faster method of notifying your next of kin. Feds won't give local LE any information related to SS numbers. Local can run drivers licenses and ID cards through NCIC.
